In the ten years that they have spent in the UAE, longtime friends and colleagues Nick Alvis and Scott Price have played a pivotal role in shaping and developing the region’s dining scene.
Having spent over a decade working for Gordon Ramsay in London, Paris and Dubai, in 2011 they launched their first restaurant, Table 9 by Nick and Scott, to great success winning a string of accolades and garnering attention for being one of the first homegrown concepts. In 2013, they showcased their diversity by creating and establishing the Taste Kitchen brand, a chain of popular, award-winning contemporary café-style restaurants.
Their greatest achievement to date came in early 2017 with the opening of Folly by Nick and Scott at Souk Madinat Jumeirah. As part of a long-term, multiple restaurant partnership with Gates Hospitality, the two conceived the concept from scratch and guests will spot their signature style not just in the menu – with its unfussy, innovative dishes and commitment to quality ingredients – but in the decor, craft cocktails, music playlist and general vibe.
With its fabulous views, stunning outdoor terraces and different dining options – from an intimate kitchen bar experience to a secluded table out on the terrace, the choice to sample a bespoke tasting menu or simply order a drink and a couple of nibbles and watch the sun go down, Folly has something for everyone – as well as the best sunset in Dubai.
Much like their previous ventures, Folly has already received an array of awards and accolades, including Time Out’s Best European Restaurant and Best Bar with a View, as well as being named Esquire Magazine’s Third Best Restaurant in the Middle East for 2018, and with future openings in the pipeline, their presence in the region is set to grow and grow.
DUBAI, UAE: Off the Wall is a one-of-a-kind urban cocktail bar, paying homage to the bright lights and the bustling streets of the neighborhood Satwa. With an inspired nostalgic setting, Off the Wall is not only a sight to behold, but it is also a powerhouse on the beverage scene, making sure that every ingredient, every visitor, and every experience is given the utmost attention to detail.
Full of character, the entrance of the bar is lit from the ceiling by light installation “Tokyo meet Dubai” designed by locally based artist Maxime Cramatte of Satwa 3000. The installation is a fusion of Tokyo craziness and Satwa’s inspired design, that creates a powerful entrance experience with a futuristic twist.
Right after guests step into the bar, they will find the artworks of Syrian artist Baseen Rayynes who has painted two of his striking murals directly on the walls which are on either side of the entrance bar.
The rest of the walls have distressed brick effect, upon which is layered the Graffiti artwork by Paul Bruwer of The Domino art collective.
Wall art and graffiti in Off The Wall reflect Dubai’s recognition of these mainstream forms of art, that are nowadays as important as art exhibited in museums and galleries.
The creative energy flows not only in the street art on the walls, but also in the bar program and cocktail menu. The barmen are like artists, who push their creative boundaries when it comes to modern bartending and are ready to serve up a crafted imaginative beverage to impress the guests with unusual flavour combinations and multi-sensory experimental presentations. All signature cocktails are inspired by the prominent art pieces from around the world and the whole beverages menu revolves around creativity as well as artistic values with a bit of storytelling.
Curated cocktail craftsmanship is at the forefront, where traditional Arabic ingredients are used in a contemporary way to showcase what a cocktail can be nowadays, like a fig skin ink that is applied as a paint on the cocktail glasses, homemade Arabic amaro digestive and caramel crackers made from pineapple and dates. There are no boundaries of creativity at Off The Wall, whether it is integration of home-made elements or adapting culinary techniques borrowed from the kitchen.
Off the Wall deliver on flavor, presentation, and variety with precision, making sure that the food is a delectable feast for everyone’s senses.
The menu is bursting with flavor blending together contemporary and well-loved Asian street food dishes for a landscape of food that is truly diverse and exclusive to our tables. Off the Wall present Pan-Asian bites in a casual surrounding where epicurean palates meet interior perfection and where it is possible to create different backdrops for a range of occasions.
Find collaborations with Dubai-based independent DJs and record collectors, who spin curated alternative tunes from the rare records to well-known classics.
Off the Wall is a destination where guests come for the cocktails and bar bites, stay for the offbeat tunes and return for good vibes, whilst soaking up the Downtown skyline from the terrace. Off The Wall is an ultimate urban bar which can only be found in an ultra-urban city like Dubai!
