Abu Dhabi International Airport’s cutting-edge Terminal A is expected to debut in November 2023. This new terminal, formerly known as the Midfield Terminal Building, intends to revolutionise the airport experience and improve the city’s aviation capabilities. With a total area of 742,000 square metres, it will be one of the world’s largest airport terminals, capable of handling up to 45 million people per year, 11,000 passengers per hour, and 79 aeroplanes at the same time.
The terminal will use cutting-edge biometric technology, such as self-service kiosks, effective security checks, and innovative baggage handling systems, to ensure smooth passenger trips. Through the use of energy-efficient lighting, cutting-edge HVAC systems, and sustainable building materials, its design combines contemporary aesthetics with utility and is in line with sustainability objectives. Carbon emissions are decreased in part because to a solar photovoltaic system on the parking lot roof.
Travellers may anticipate a variety of amenities, including lounges, chill out areas, spa facilities, and a variety of 163 retail and dining establishments. Abu Dhabi’s transportation infrastructure is considered as having advanced with the inauguration of Terminal A, increasing the city’s appeal to both leisure and business travellers and solidifying its status as a major international commerce centre.
Both Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Interim CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, and His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, emphasised the terminal’s contribution to providing a premium airport experience on a global scale.
