Abu Dhabi’s single-use plastic ban will come into effect on June 1

According to the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), the new rule goes into effect starting on June 1, Wednesday. 

In March 2020, the EAD launched the single-use of plastics policy, which can help the environment from harm and protect marine diversity. 

According to Khaleej Times, there is a list of reusable bags available in major supermarkets. TheThe media agency also gives tips on how to prepare for the ban. 

Supermarkets offer reusable bags in Abu Dhabi; these bags are more sustainable and eco-friendly:

  1. Jute bags (natural fiber made from outer stem and skin of jute plant) At Lulu Hypermarkets, a jute bag costs AED 7.50. 
  2. Biodegradable bags are made from plant-based materials like corn and wheat starch rather than petroleum. These bags are available at supermarkets at AED 2.50
  3. New paper bags
  4. Recycled paper bags
  5. Cloth bags
  6. Starch-based bags
