Curly-haired women of the world unite! Take it from this lady who has broken stereotypes about curly hair and has put up her own start-up as a platform to dispel the notion that wearing curly hair in “unprofessional.”
Rym Yessad is a French entrepreneur and the founder of the start-up concept Curlshops.com, an e-shop specialising in natural haircare products and hair accessories that are tailored to curly, wavy and kinky hair.
As a young girl with curly hair, growing up in France in the 90’s was challenging. Yessad’s hair was a constant reminder of the difficulties being an immigrant in a European country.
She resorted to conforming to societal pressures and wore her hair straight during her teenage years. It was only until she was in her twenties that she mustered up the confidence and bravery to start wearing her hair curly and part ways with the hot tools and chemical treatments.
Yessad learnt to embrace and accept her natural curly hair and hasn’t looked back since.
The importance of understanding labels and ingredient for your hair and your skin came from her years of experience in the beauty industry. Yessad’s previous experience in global beauty companies such as L’Oréal and Sephora are more expertise and skill she has in her arsenal.
However, wearing her natural curly hair at a multinational set-up was a challenge due to society’s perception of curly hair. Yessad fought against the stereotype of curly hair being “unprofessional,” which made her stronger over the years. The moments of Yessad’s life led up to the one moment where the idea for Curlshops.com was born.
She started Curlshops.com with the mission of helping all curly haired women to gain their confidence back, respect their own natural beauty and to never be ashamed of their curls and ultimately wear them with pride.
As a mother of twin girls with naturally curly hair, Yessad found it extremely crucial to teach her girls to embrace their natural beauty at a young age and adopt this philosophy as a new way of life.
The e-shop offers a wide range of naturally based products from the United States, France, United Kingdom and Italy to name a few. Curlshops.com also boasts its own range of accessories, with affordable prices, not to mention the website includes a blog section to help women reconnect with their beauty and start their natural journey, one step at a time.
Yessad has many projects planned in the pipeline for Curlshops.com in Q4 2020 and 2021, with a real vision to create a community of women from all age groups, nationalities and backgrounds to guide them through their natural hair journey.
I definitely recommend this website! I really love the spirit of the team and Rym is super kind and professional.
