Etihad Railway line completed: Freight can now travel across UAE

Etihad Rail has released a new video on Twitter, confirming that the network is 100 percent complete. The video showcases the impressive infrastructure of the railway, including nine tunnels spanning 6.5 km, 593 bridges and crossings, and excavation works of 120 million cubic meters. The tourism benefits of the railway have been estimated at AED23 billion.

While passengers are not yet able to use the railway, it is currently operational for freight transportation. The first stage of the railway was completed in 2016, and it has been transporting 22,000 tonnes of granulated sulphur each day from Habshan and Shah to Ruwais on behalf of ADNOC.

The completion of stage two of the railway now connects the Emirates via Abu Dhabi, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. This network will open up new trade opportunities, allowing goods to be transported quickly and efficiently across the UAE.

The Etihad Railway line is a significant investment in the UAE’s infrastructure, and its completion highlights the country’s commitment to progress and development. The completion of the network is a major achievement for the UAE, and we look forward to the first passenger train departing from the station.
