Failure to renew the driving license can result in a fine of AED 500

According to UAE Government and Roads and Transport Authority, the delay in renewing driving licenses cost AED10 per month. Thus, a maximum fine is capped at AED500 for delays lasting less than 10 years. 

Customers with expired documents who want to renew them must pass another road test if they haven’t done so in the last 10 years, according to the RTA. There would be a cost of nearly AED 1,400 for the test and fine in this case.

Renewal of a license costs AED 120 for residents under 21. It costs AED 320 for those over 21.

Licence renewal requirements and validity

To renew your license, you will need your Emirates ID and eye test results.

The validity of the renewed licence for those aged 21 and above would be:

>> 10 years for UAE and GCC citizens

>> 5 years for expats
