Hamdan bin Mohammed launches national initiative to educate public about Emirati Genome Programme

The Crown Prince of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has launched a national campaign to promote the Emirati Genome Programme and its strategic objectives.

The campaign, implemented by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), aims to raise awareness of the importance of registering with the Programme among Emiratis.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed emphasized the UAE’s commitment to enhancing scientific research, including healthcare, as part of the country’s strategic objectives. He called on the community, including institutions, authorities, and individuals, to support the Programme, which seeks to understand genetics to reduce the prevalence of chronic and epidemic diseases.

The Emirati Genome Programme, being executed by G42 Healthcare in collaboration with DHA, aims to build the first de novo Emirati reference genome, based on the DNA of UAE nationals.

The project uses advanced AI technologies for genome to identify genetic causes and predict susceptibility to diseases, drawing a comprehensive genetic map for UAE citizens to accelerate the development of advanced preventive and personalised healthcare solutions.

The Programme seeks to consolidate the UAE’s leadership in the field of genomic studies and establish the foundation for innovation in health and wellness in the country. The DHA will work with G42 Healthcare to provide Emiratis in Dubai with information on the importance and strategic objectives of the Programme and how they can register for it.
