Dubai launches digital maps project for self-driving cars

The Dubai Municipality has launched a very exact digital maps project for autonomous cars with the assistance of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Centre.

Dubai Municipality shared a 4WD outfitted with cameras that would serve as a platform for map preparation. According to officials, these maps would be developed in accordance with the highest standards and international norms.

Dubai has a sophisticated self-driving transportation policy that seeks to convert 25% of all trips to driverless by 2030.

When it comes to preparation for autonomous vehicles, global firm KPMG rates the UAE among the top countries.

Previously, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced intentions to begin testing of autonomous taxis and e-Hail services before the end of the year.
