UAE: Hanging clothes on balconies for drying is punishable by a fine of AED 1,000

Abu Dhabi authorities warned the residents that hanging clothes on balconies for drying can be fined AED 1,000. This is a program that will maintain the image and distinct appearance of the city.

According to Khaleej Times, Abu Dhabi City Municipality warning was issued during the awareness campaign via virtual platform. The authorities earlier warned the misuse of balconies and can fine residents from AED 1,000 or higher.

In a statement, the municipality said hanging laundry from a window or railing distorts the appearance of the building and is not permitted.

To avoid hanging laundry over the balustrade directly overlooking the street, people have been urged to adopt alternative modern laundry-drying techniques, such as electric clothes dryers and clothes drying racks.
