World’s largest solar power plant, Al Dhafra, inaugurated ahead of COP28

The world’s largest single-site solar power plant, the 2GW Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic Independent Power Project, has been inaugurated in Abu Dhabi ahead of COP28, capable of powering almost 200,000 homes and displacing 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The project, developed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) in collaboration with partners, features innovative bi-facial technology across 4 million solar panels, covering over 20 sq.km. of desert and creating 4,500 jobs during construction.

The UAE has emerged as a global leader in solar energy, with Al Dhafra setting records for cost competitiveness in utility-scale solar projects.
