Coca-Cola Arena.

Conor Maynard and Zack Knight return to one of their favourite destinations, Dubai, for a one-night-only, not to be missed performance on the 8th of May at the Coca-Cola Arena. This will be the first time that these two fast-rising performers, who were catapulted into international stardom early on in their careers, will share a stage.

Known for his mesmerizing covers and his signature vocal abilities, Conor Maynard needs little introduction.  As a long-time YouTube creator who broke into the mainstream market when he won the MTV Award for ‘Brand New in 2012’, he continues to churn out back-to-back viral videos on his YouTube and TikTok channels, which are nearing 12.7 million and 6.3 million subscribers respectively.  His latest being a re-imagined work of Whitney Houston’s iconic single, “Dance With Somebody” which transforms the chart-topping track into a sombre pop ballad.

Continuing to break new grounds with a global fan base that is growing at an extraordinary pace, Maynard will perform all his fan favourites including: “What I Put You Through”, “Turn Around” and “Can’t Say No”.

Born in North England to a Punjabi Mother and Afro-Asian father (whom he credits as his inspiration behind pursuing a career in music), Zack is one of the UK’s most formidable South Asian singer/songwriters.  He first started out in the industry writing music for household names including Tinie Tempah and Ginuwine but soon came to want his own career.   Knight struck gold when he released his 2017 hit single: “Bom Diggy Diggy” (ft Jasmin Walia). With over 869 million views to date on YouTube alone, the song cemented him as an international superstar – even Nick Jonas from Jonas Brothers fame claims this to be one of his top favourite Bollywood songs.

Describing his music as R&B infused with a crossover sound with Bollywood and Arabian influences, Knight will be performing all his hits including: “Galtiyan”, “Nakhre”, “Gotta Go” and “Thumka”, all of which have received resounding success worldwide.

Dubai’s entertainment power couple, Osman Osman and Shaaista Khan Osman, MD and CEO of Blu Blood share: “We continue to endeavour to bring the very best world-class, show-stopping entertainment to Dubai.  We’re especially excited to bring these two artists out on one stage to be a part of our Blu Blood Experience for Eid in Dubai celebrations.  They both come with exciting energy and incredible stage performances and we know that this show is guaranteed to be one of epic proportions.”

UAE celebrates Zayed Humanitarian Work Day

0

Today, the UAE will celebrate Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, coinciding with the anniversary of the death of the Founding Leader, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Since the passing of Sheikh Zayed, the UAE has celebrated Zayed Humanitarian Work Day to commemorate his legacy and continue his journey of giving.

The event is also an annual occasion to announce the launch of several vital humanitarian and charity initiatives through hundreds of official community events.

Sheikh Zayed was a symbol of giving and provided aid to needy people around the world. Due to his significant efforts, the UAE has gained a significant regional and international humanitarian stature.

The UAE has been a model of humanitarian giving since its establishment in 1971, and has adopted the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed.

The Abu Dhabi Development Fund was established in 1971, while the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation was founded in 1992.

Sheikh Zayed was keen to institutionalise the foreign aid sector to enhance its efficiency and promote responsibility, and over 40 donors, and humanitarian and charity foundations have been established in the UAE to provide services worldwide.

These facts confirm the valuable stances and directives of the late Sheikh Zayed, and the value of development and humanitarian aid provided by the UAE from 1971 to 2004 to nearly 117 countries, which amounted to some AED90.5 billion.

The late Sheikh Zayed received awards and recognitions from many countries, in appreciation of his services to humanity.

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s ‘Stories of Paper’ to welcome visitors on Wednesday

0

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) opened Louvre Abu Dhabi’s second international exhibition of the year, ”Stories of Paper”.

The exhibition will open to the public on April 20 and will run until July 24, 2022.

From the first century to the present and from ancient Asia to Europe and contemporary Arabia, Stories of Paper examines the rich artistic legacy of this fragile material that not only became indispensable for record keeping and trade but has proved essential to cultural interaction and intellectual exchange for two millennia.

Created in partnership with the Musée du Louvre and in collaboration with France-Muséums as well as several leading international institutions and private collections, Stories of Paper explores the special material’s qualities: uniquely suited to recording, remembering and re-production, paper manages to be simultaneously fragile and malleable, light-sensitive and resilient.

About 100 artworks and objects from 16 museums, cultural institutions and private collections will be on display. These include books, manuscripts, drawings, a reproduction of a house and 13 contemporary artworks and installations made of paper.

Stories of Paper includes Katsushika Hokusai’s renowned Kanagawa-oki Nami Ura (The Great Wave off Kanagawa), The Labyrinth, a colossal maze made from sinuous ribbons of corrugated cardboard by the Italian conceptual artist Michelan-gelo Pistoletto, traditional paper clothing and a reconstruction of a room from a Korean paper house, masterworks by Antonio Pisanello and Pablo Picasso, alongside paper-based artworks by Hassan Sharif, Abdullah Al Saadi and Mohammed Kazem, pioneers of Emirati conceptual art.

The exhibition will take visitors on a journey through time to discover the various ways in which paper was utilised across cultures.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy a diverse public programme of wide-ranging cultural activities.

Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: “With the emergence of digital transformation and the dematerialisation of our haptic experiences, it makes sense for Louvre Abu Dhabi to celebrate paper as a common yet precious good. From books, manuscripts and drawings to contemporary art works or installations made of paper, Stories of Paper retraces a chronological history of this single universal medium, considering the usage and key characteristics of paper such as transparency and robustness to provide an original perspective on the use of paper throughout time and across the different regions.” “We are also very pleased to invite prominent Emirati artists to be part of this shared dialogue with works on display by Hassan Sharif, Abdullah Al Saadi and Mohammed Kazem, all of whom are considered pioneers of Emirati conceptual art.”

Laurence des Cars, Director of Musée du Louvre, said: “Stories of Paper fuses contemporary works from Arab and European art scenes, such as Labyrinth by the great Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto a piece which confirms paper’s perpetual importance to mankind.”

The exhibition is curated by the Musee du Louvre’s Xavier Salmon, general curator and director of the Department of Drawings and Prints, and Victor Hundsbuckler, curator at the Department of Drawings and Prints, with the support of Souraya Noujaim, director of Scientific, Curatorial and Collections Management at Louvre Abu Dhabi.

HISTORY: Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1918-2004)

0

This man of greatness is the father of the United Arab Emirates. His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the ruler of Abu Dhabi and the President of the nation for more than three decades.

As one of the founders of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed played an essential role in developing the emirate of Abu Dhabi. He launched a vast infrastructure program of roads, hospitals, schools, and other significant establishments in the emirate.

After the British withdrew in 1968, the founding father took the historical step to establish a relationship with other emirates and H.H Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum (Ruler of Dubai). He called for a federation consisting of the seven emirates.

The seven emirates eventually became the United Arab Emirates on the 2nd of December 1971. Thus, the Rulers of the other emirates unanimously elected Sheikh Zayed as the President of the UAE.

In 2018, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared the year 2018 as the Year of Zayed to mark the 100th birthday of the founding father.
